Manchester extends wireless network
Written by Anonymous on 12:06 AMThe Eastserve Wireless Broadband service was originally started in 2000, but since then it has developed into a viable service that already covers around 3,500 households in East Manchester, and now there are plans to expand this service to cover the entire city of Manchester.
At the moment, the basic service is costing £6 for a 150 Kb connection, but for something a little faster, the 2 Mb connection is available at £20 a month.
Users are given access to training, cheap computer repairs and support, as well as free email.
There is even an opportunity for households without a computer to get online through a scheme where cheap new or recycled computers are available.
If this plan goes ahead, and there is no reason why it should not, then it will make Eastserve the largest project of this nature in the whole of Europe.
