UK Wireless Networks 'Lack Security'
Written by Anonymous on 12:36 AMNew research from Kaspersky Lab has suggested UK homes with wireless networks could be at risk from attack from malicious sources.
The firm found that 57 per cent of homes in the country include a wireless network, although just 35 per cent of respondents have implemented adequate security precautions.
In order to remedy this, Kaspersky Lab recommends changing the default password on the wireless router, avoiding an easily-guessed password and enabling the device's encryption features.
Other measures include switching off the Service Set Identifier broadcasting, to avoid advertising the presence of the network, and changing its default name to reduce the chance of someone locating it.
David Emm, senior technology consultant at Kaspersky Lab, commented: "You would not leave your windows and doors unlocked when you go out for fear of being burgled, but by failing to adequately protect yourself when using wireless internet access you are doing just that."
Yesterday (July 10th), the firm launched two new products to help protect user's systems - Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 and Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2009, both stocked by CCL Online.
